The Importance of Regular Exams

Annual healthy-animal exams (also referred to as Wellness exams) allow us to evaluate your pet's general health and become aware of any health problems before they become serious illnesses.

These examinations should be performed at least once yearly and are the most important preventive measure that you can provide for your pet. Remember, pets age at a much faster rate than humans, your pet's health can change much faster than what we're accustomed to in ourselves.

These exams are more than just getting shots. Since your pet cannot vocalize their feelings, we rely on our physical exam, your at-home observations, and diagnostic tests to assess your pet's health.

We will request a recent history of your pet's health. Don't forget to mention any unusual behavior that you have noticed in your pet, including:

  • Chronic coughing or sneezing
  • Chronic vomiting or diarrhea
  • Itching or chewing at skin
  • Excess or decrease in eating or drinking
  • Panting or intolerance of exercise
  • Trouble rising, weakness, or imbalance
  • Unexplained weight changes

It may help to make a list to bring with you of any questions or concerns that needs to be discussed with us, so nothing is forgotten at the time of exam.
